"Published in the familiar black, hard cover format of the BH collection on conservation, this book is truly the jewel in the crown of that series. .a remarkable source of information on everything I always wanted to know, From the history of furniture and conservation to the mixing of isinglass and the cleaning of marble and if I want to know more, the extensive bibliographies at the end of each section will tell me where to go. If I owned only one book this would be the one.
Not only is it comprehensive, it is also eminently enjoyable to read."

About the Author
Shayne Rivers trained in traditional cabinetmaking and finishing, followed by a further four years training in furniture restoration. In 1998, she graduated from the Victoria &Albert Museum/Royal College of Art joint Conservation Programme with an M.A. in Furniture Conservation, having specialised in the conservation of painted, japanned and lacquered surfaces. Soon after graduating she was appointed to her present position as a Senior Furniture Conservator at the V&A.
After 11 years working in biological sciences and part time furniture making Nick Umney re-trained as a furniture conservator at the ripe old age of 29. He then spent some ten years working as a senior furniture conservator at the V&A, before moving into a management role as Assistant Head of Department. He was seconded to be the Museum Project Manager for the British Galleries Project at the V&A from 1997- 2001 before taking on the role of Director of the Collections Services Division which he now occupies.

Solid Reference

This book is an immensely useful reference for the treatment of a diverse range of materials and objects. It has sections on adhesives and coatings as well. A solid reference for the objects conservator; I keep coming back to it again and again. A bit pricey, but worth it.
