Great bio for an 80's icon

What a great bio! I am 39 and couldn't believe when George announced his US tour in '08. I got a ticket in April for his only Philadelphia show in July. It was a nostalgic blast from the past. George transformed the Wachovia center into a nightclub. We were up dancing more than we were sitting. He engaged us as though we were personal friends. This book takes us back to George's childhood influences up to and including his latest tour. There are some wonderful full color photos that showcase his changing looks. I also have the prior bios "Bare" and "Older". This completes my collection. I highly recommend this edition as well as the DVD companion "A Different Story" It was sold at his concerts and is hard to find. There are excerpts however on Youtube. Enjoy reading about a true musical genius.

Great Book

I thought this book was really great. It is pretty easy to read,once you get past the introduction. The author really goes into the influences George has had throughout his life, and how they have influenced his music. He goes into George's relationships, scandals, and home life to provide a rich account of George's life. I would recommend this to any hard-core fan looking for more insight into one of the most controversial singers of our time.

Incorrect equations and information

Unfortunately there aren't many textbooks out there dedicated to the magnetocaloric effect. In fact, this is the only one I've been able to find. This textbook is full of incorrect information from the start. I had to re-derive the basic thermodynamic relations and Maxwell equations in Chapter 2 in order to correct the more complex equations used later in the book. Much of the explanations are confusing, unclear, contradictory, if not outright wrong.
I really wish the authors would make a serious revision, or that other experts in the field would publish a better book with more accurate information.

Good introduction

I love the idea of using entirely natural substances with many proven benefits for mind, body and soul, to make perfumes. This book is a pretty decent introduction. There are numerous perfume recipies which encourage creativity and experimentation. The book is clear, serves its purpose and is clearly based on a lot of experience about combining scents. It gets four stars rather than five because it is a little modest in its aims - it doesn't use any of the exotic oils to make perfumes - and a little sparse on explaining the real magic of essential oils -ie that they are extraordinary complex substances that work on a physical, emotional and spiritual realm simultaneously. For books that do wonderful justice to essential oils see Valerie Wormwood's Fragrant Mind and Fragrant Heavens.

i love this book. if you are interested in finding out how to scent anything, be it your body, hair, skin, lotions, bath oils, or your living room -- this book is a great place to start. It is a marvelous introduction to aromatherapy focussing on teaching the basic principles you will need to understand in order to create your own blends. The book also lists a mulititude of excellent sample blends and imparts a wealth of knowledge on the essential oils and how to use them effectively. there's something in here for everyone.

Explaining the complex end of the Cold War to young students

Obviously if there is one picture that symbolizes "The End of the Cold War," then that would be the Berlin Wall coming down, and indeed on the cover of this final volume in "The Cold War" series that picture is front and center. Flanking it are pictures of President George H. W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev. Now, I have no problems with the latter, but if we are talking about the American presidents who were responsible for bringing the Cold War to an end then we are talking Richard Nixon, for opening up detente with the Soviets and visiting Red China, and Ronald Reagan, who effectively bankrupted the U.S.S.R. by pushing for this Strategic Defense Initiative and forcing the Soviets to try and keep pace. Fortunately, both Nixon and Reagan are given due credit in this informative volume written by Christine Hatt.
Although this is one of several volumes in this series--which includes books on "The Causes of the Cold War," "The Cuban Missile Crisis," and "The Vietnam War"--it does encompass more than the entire lifetime of any young readers who crack it open. Hatt begins with the Changing Time presented by the first half of the 1970s, when the Cold War became dramatically less frosty because of the policy of detent pursued by Nixon and his national security adviser/secretary of state Henry Kissinger. After getting into the specifics of what that meant (new relations with China, SALT I, the end of the Vietnam War, etc.), Hatt presents the Carter years as the collapse of detente, and the Reagan years as "Cold War II." At that point the push for SDI (a.k.a. "Star Wars") and problems in Poland that resulted in the birth of the Solidarity trade union, set the stage for the end game of the Cold War.
Consequently, Hatt does a very nice job of setting up how the time for reform arrived in the Soviet Union, and how Mikhail Gorbachev pushed the U.S.S.R. in the new directions of "perestroika" (restructuring the economy) and "glasnost" (increased political openness). The end of the Cold War resulted in widespread changes, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, the reunification of Germany, and finally the internal collapse of the Soviet Union. Ironically, Gorbachev ended up falling to Boris Yeltsin after the August Coup by the hard-line communists in 1991. Hatt also touches on the legacy of the Cold War, in terms of what it has meant for the United States, the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, and the rest of the world.
The final word on the subject is the ironic statement of Lawrence Eagleburger, Deputy U.S. Secretary of State, who pointed out that: "For all its risk and uncertainties, the Cold War was characterized by a remarkably stable and predictable set of relationships among the great powers." If young readers can appreciate how this statement would be supported by the world in which they now live, where we are currently under an orange/high level of alert, then they will begin to grapple with some of the bigger issues that are confronting the political leaders and citizens of the world today. "The End of the Cold War" is divided into discreet units in each chapter, and illustrated with dozens of historic photographs. This might be ancient history now, but it sure was not when I was the same age as the young students for whom this is intended.

I love this series from my favorite author

I love this series from my favorite author, Nora Roberts!! ALL of her books, and I've read most if not all, plus I've read most of her books by J.D. Robb, offer the reader rich character development and a story line that makes you want to keep reading into the wee hours! Her stories always have just the right mix of a mystery/puzzle to solve and the perfect amount of steamy romance!

Love this trilogy!

Loved the trilogy! The characters were engaging and endearing. As always Nora Roberts keeps me reading and wanting more.i would recommended this series to anyone that loves romance, magic and happier ever after. I love the Irish twist and mystic storyline. Her ability to make you love the characters and be sad to leave them at the end of the trilogy.

Alas.... I was disappointed with this latest book "Face the Fire" By Nora Roberts. I do not know how such an exciting premise, and storyline could fall so flat, but Face manages to do so.
Face the fire, was like anticipating drinking a latte... Only to find out the milk had gone sour.
Don't get me wrong. I love Nora. But her last two books have lacked her usual spark.
Mia Devlin, wiccan guru, is destined to save the island and all she holds dear, if she can only open her heart to love. Sam Logan (how many romance novel heroes are called Logan or Sam? ), business-man-wiccan, returns to the island, to reclaim his birthright.... The magic inn. What follows is a clash of wills, as Logan struggles to convince Mia that he loves her... despite walking out on her ten years ago.
Mia, as a character suffers from 'superman' syndrome. She is too powerful, too smart, and too ...... "Too Everything.." in my opinion.
Sam, is the same character as half a dozen Robert's men (Cam from the Chesapeake Bay series for example), except, with the added twist that he is a practicing witch. I would've liked to see Sam be different, perhaps more sensitive because of his witchiness and selkie heritage. Instead, Sam is no more enlightened (and is perhaps more clueless) than the average guy.
There were plot threads in this book that went nowhere, and ended abruptly. The part about the book signing and the authoress? What's up with that?
Overall, a good, but not great novel by Nora. If you wish to read a better Wiccan series by Nora, pick up the Donovan Legacy, you won't be disappointed
